Depends on the state — in California, felony theft falls in a category anything above $1200 (new purchase cost). So even if you steal an old computer, they price it as the replacement cost of a similar computer on the market.
I’m not sure how they do cash — maybe they work in interest too?
Don’t steal — it’s easier that way.

It depends on how you steal it. Goods? Cash money? At night? Breaking in? Shop lifting? Weapon?
