What Is A Good Way To Stop People Wasting Their Benefit Money?
A lot of people claim benefits and then they go and buy things like cigarettes, alcohol, drugs etc. And some young mothers use the money on themselves rather than the baby.
What would be the best way to stop people using it on these type of things?
Would reducing their money and giving vouchers for items be a good solution? For example, young mothers receive less money but get vouchers for things like baby food, nappies etc. A bit like rationing.

We could use that very same voucher system with AIG so that they don’t continue to give bonuses from their welfare.

Get people off benefits. Vouchers have been touted as an idea, which I could be persuaded to agree with. Personally I would like too see Gov crack down on people not willing too work, if they keep refusing to goto job interviews or accpet job offers then stop benefits. Some one who is willing too work will not turn down a job, I know this because I have been in that position a couple of times. Removing the benefits system would just increase poverty/child poverty and that isnt any good for society.
ian create jobs, you already mention social housing/centre, these need building so that would create jobs. Offer or force people on jsa too take up these jobs. I know people who have been on jsa/dole for 30 years i know a person who is on incapacity benefits because their wife left them, that is just wrong dont you think?

I think that for the first 6 months to a year people should be given their benefits as cash to do with what they want (i.e. the system now) as there are some situations, such as at the moment with the recession, where hard working people lose their jobs and do genuinely need to go on benefits to make ends meet whilst they find a new job.
However, the problem is not these people who are out of work because they can’t find a job, but rather the people who don’t work because they can’t be bothered and would much rather sit at home and watch the Jeremy Kyle show whilst the tax payer pays for them. These people need incentivising and if taking away their booze and cigs is the most effective way of doing this – and let’s face it, that’s what’s most likely to get through to these people rather than any sense of moral obligation – then that’s what should happen. After a year their benefits should start being given in the form of vouchers, maybe 50% to start with and then increasing after 6 months, so as to make these people realise that if they expect the tax payer to pay for them they can only expect us to pay for the necessities. Yes it’s probably harsh, but I fail to see why I should work my rear end off only to have my taxes pay for them solely because they can’t be bothered to put in half of the amount of effort that I do.

Totally eliminate all programs for “benefits” that are given without being EARNED. Eliminate welfare, food stamps, housing assistance and the rest of the communist programs.
ianhad, tell the leeches to get jobs. How did the human race survive before communism?
tiggsy, money received from communist government “benefit” programs belongs to the people who EARNED IT, not to the leeches who spend it.

I think that vouchers should be used and provisions should be in placed to discourage mothers from using the vouchers for alcohol, drugs and cigarettes.also the vouchers should be for food and baby supplies ONLY not for slurpee’s and candy bars at 711 or convenient stores.

Food-they have to go to a centre and eat the food there, child allowance, mother goes to a shop, is logged in and clothes are fitted to the child.
It’s called big brother, but there is almost no other way round the problem.
Saying get people off benefits is stupid-how?

Yes either cut their benefits or give them vouchers, I have seen mothers come out of the post office and go straight to the newsagent and buy scratch cards.

Most don’t and all the money goes back into the economy or goes to the treasury in indirect taxes, one word civilisation.

There isn’t really a way around this, I thought of maybe a voucher or token idea years ago, the trouble is that children would probably end up worse off as people would just sell the items off cheap.

Frankly I would have an exchange system where they could get food and over the counter medicines.

A good way that is fail proof, is by not giving them any benefits!!!

Are you a fascist? Are you looking for a job inspecting how people spend their money? Get a life, why don’t you
